LifeSprings
This summer we will be walking through select passages of 1 Corinthians. First Corinthians is a lengthy book, so together we have selected the passages that we want to cover. See the schedule below.
LifeSprings generally meets 6:00pm-8:30pm Sunday nights. We start with a meal, read the Bible text for the night, discuss a passage from First Corithians, and pray–all taking place in loving relationships and with lots of laughter (see About for more information).
The Corinthian church was composed of some who were brought up according to Jewish traditions along with many gentiles from the fast-paced urban context of the city. Corinth was located at a busy crossroads for first century commerce, both land and sea. It was a religious city dominated by the worship of Aphrodite, the goddess of love––the large temple there was devoted to her and hosted a thousand prostitutes who promoted immorality.
In the book of First Corinthians Paul addresses several concerns the church had for him. Paul had taken a year and a half to establish the church near the end of his second missionary journey. He wrote the letter from Ephesus at the beginning of his third missionary journey after hearing word of their quarrels and divisions (1:10-11), and receiving supplies from a three-person delegation from the church (16:17), who probably also brought the list of questions for Paul.
This is a tentative schedule depending on when we have a quorum to meet.
