Characters

These are the characters we have seen developed in the first two episodes. Though their culture was quite different than ours, we have found them to be very relatable to people today. They all – except for One – struggle with the same things we do: finances, self-identity, pride, social rejection, a desire to belong, spiritual doubt and confusion, governmental intrusion and a longing for freedom, loneliness, marital conflict, and more.

So far we have not had much screen time of Jesus, but what we have seen has demonstrated why we are so drawn to Him.

  • He pursued the oppressed and confused.

  • He shows up just when people needed Him.

  • He is humble in spirit, yet engaging with love.

He is just beginning to be known in the first two episodes. The obvious display of His power is the way He delivers Mary and transforms her life. He dispelled her darkness and doom and she is walking in the light with a new hope – her countenance is even changed. People notice. Nicodemus investigates her story, having seen her previous life.

As for Matthew the tax collector and Peter the fisherman, they have yet to meet Jesus but we see how much they need Him too.
